Anita Lester is an Australian multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne, working across music, film, writing, painting, poetry, and illustration. She is known for her deeply narrative-driven practice that blends storytelling with visual and musical expression, often exploring themes of identity, memory, folklore, and emotional transformation. She first gained prominence as the frontwoman of indie rock project Lester the Fierce, touring internationally before launching her solo career. Her debut solo EP Erato (2020) introduced a more intimate, poetic sound, including a widely noted cover of Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker. Her debut album The Clown (2023) further expanded her reputation as a songwriter blending indie, folk, and art-pop sensibilities, with influences ranging from Nick Cave to Kate Bush. Beyond music, she is also active in film (including award-winning short films), visual art, illustration, and writing, with exhibitions and commissioned works spanning portraiture, folklore-inspired art, and literary collaborations. In short, she is a multi-disciplinary storyteller working across sound, image, and text, with a strong focus on emotionally rich, symbolic, and narrative-driven art.
