Automelodi is a Canadian synth-pop and post-punk project founded in 2006 by Montréal-based songwriter, producer, and vocalist Xavier Paradis. Although often described as a band for live performances, Automelodi is primarily Paradis's solo creative project, with a rotating live lineup supporting him on stage. Paradis has been active in electronic music since the mid-1990s, initially recording under the alias Arnaud Lazlaud before launching Automelodi. His music draws heavily on European synth-pop, minimal wave, and post-punk from the late 1970s and 1980s, while incorporating French-language lyrics inspired by songwriters such as Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Fontaine. The result is a distinctive blend of vintage electronic textures, melodic songwriting, and literary lyricism. Following a self-released debut EP, Automelodi issued its self-titled debut album in 2010 through Wierd Records. The project continued to evolve with the albums Surlendemains acides (2013) and Mirages au futur verre-brisé (2019), earning a devoted international following within the synth-pop, cold wave, and darkwave communities. Extensive touring across Europe, North America, and Latin America has further established Automelodi's reputation for atmospheric and energetic live performances. After taking a brief hiatus following the pandemic and personal loss, Paradis returned with the single "Cavallo" in 2024 and resumed touring while preparing new material. Alongside Automelodi, he remains an active producer and collaborator, working with artists across the electronic and post-punk scene.
