Ben Mastwyk is an Australian country and Americana singer-songwriter based in Victoria. Emerging in 2015 with his debut album Mornin’ Evenin’, Mastwyk quickly established himself as a distinctive voice in the Australian country scene, blending classic honky-tonk, 70s country-soul, and psychedelic influences. His early work was self-released, beginning as a limited vinyl pressing before wider distribution. In 2018, Mastwyk expanded his sound by forming his band The Millions, releasing Winning Streak, which showcased fuller arrangements and a “cosmic country” aesthetic. His 2021 album Livin’ on Gold Street became his breakthrough, peaking at #49 on the ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart and gaining critical acclaim for its fusion of pedal steel, psych-guitar, and soulful country balladry. Mastwyk has toured extensively across Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, performing at major festivals and earning nominations at the Music Victoria Awards for Best Country Act and Best Country Album. Critics describe his style as “country music with rhinestones and cosmic dust,” marked by both traditional storytelling and adventurous sonic textures. Citing Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball as a pivotal influence, Mastwyk approaches songwriting as a bridge between roots tradition and experimental freedom. His live shows feature flamboyant costuming, theatrical delivery, and a commitment to celebrating both the grit and glamour of country music.
