Birdz (real name Nathan Bird) is an Indigenous Australian rapper, songwriter, and producer known for his powerful storytelling and politically charged lyricism. A proud Murri man with Badtjala, Juru, Scottish, and Melanesian heritage, Birdz was raised in Katherine, Northern Territory, and is now based in Melbourne. Signed to Bad Apples Music — the pioneering Indigenous-owned label founded by Briggs — Birdz uses hip hop as a vehicle for truth-telling and empowerment. His debut album Train of Thought (2017) earned critical acclaim, while his follow-up Legacy (2021) showcased his evolution as one of Australia’s most vital voices in hip hop. The single Bagi-la-m Bargan featuring Fred Leone was a breakout success, landing at No. 30 in triple j’s Hottest 100 and praised for its fierce anti-colonial message. Birdz has toured nationally and performed at major festivals including Groovin the Moo and St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, solidifying his reputation as a leading voice in socially conscious Australian rap.
