Bio
Black Josh is the long-running experimental UK hip-hop project of Manchester rapper Black Josh, built around a DIY, underground approach to music. Across the Ape series of releases, he collaborates frequently with artists from the Blah Records / Cult of the Damned / UK alternative rap scene, including producers and MCs like Lee Scott, Sonnyjim, Truthos Mufasa, and others. His work is rooted in lo-fi, sample-heavy, and experimental hip-hop, often blending gritty boom bap foundations with surreal lyricism, humour, and abstract storytelling. The project is known for its raw, low-budget production style and a strong DIY ethos, with many releases recorded in informal or home studio settings.
