Bluebottle Kiss are an influential Australian indie rock band formed in Sydney in 1993 by singer-songwriter Jamie Hutchings. Emerging during the rise of Australia’s alternative music scene in the 1990s, the band became known for their emotionally intense songwriting, experimental guitar work, and dynamic blend of noise, melody, and atmospheric rock textures. Originally starting as a grunge-influenced trio, Bluebottle Kiss evolved into one of Australia’s most respected underground guitar bands, drawing inspiration from acts such as Sonic Youth, Afghan Whigs, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Neil Young. Their music shifted between chaotic noise rock, melancholic indie ballads, folk-leaning arrangements, and expansive art rock compositions. The band released acclaimed albums including Higher Up the Firetrails (1995), Fear of Girls (1996), Patient (1999), Revenge Is Slow (2002), Come Across (2003), and Doubt Seeds (2006). Their 2002 album Revenge Is Slow became a standout release in the Australian indie scene and earned strong support from Triple J and alternative music media. After disbanding in 2007, Bluebottle Kiss reunited in 2022, returning to touring and reissuing classic albums on vinyl while continuing to perform for longtime fans and newer audiences.
