Chat Pile is an American **noise rock / sludge metal band** from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formed in 2019. The band consists of vocalist Raygun Busch, guitarist Luther Manhole, bassist Stin, and drummer Cap’n Ron, all of whom originally used pseudonyms while working day jobs outside music. The group takes its name from the toxic mining waste “chat piles” found throughout Oklahoma, a reference that reflects the bleak industrial decay and social anxiety that heavily influence their music and lyrical themes. Their songs often explore alienation, violence, economic collapse, mental distress, and the feeling of living through societal breakdown. Musically, Chat Pile combines crushing sludge-metal heaviness with abrasive noise rock, industrial textures, post-punk tension, and unsettling spoken-word style vocals. The band cites influences such as Big Black, The Jesus Lizard, Godflesh, Korn, and grunge-era alternative music. They gained major underground attention through early releases like *This Dungeon Earth* and *Remove Your Skin Please*, before breaking through internationally with their acclaimed debut album *God’s Country* (2022). Their second album *Cool World* (2024) expanded their sound with darker atmospheric experimentation while maintaining their signature intensity. The band has become one of the most discussed heavy underground acts of the 2020s, building a passionate cult following through intense live shows and emotionally confrontational music. Reddit and underground music communities frequently describe their sound as uniquely unsettling, cathartic, and emotionally overwhelming.
