Christof van der Ven is a Dutch-born, UK-based indie folk singer-songwriter known for his warm, introspective sound and emotionally rich songwriting. Born in Handel, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, he began playing guitar at age eight and later performed in the band Autumn Sun before moving abroad to pursue his solo career. After time spent in Ireland busking and refining his craft, Christof relocated to London, where he became a touring and recording member of the acclaimed British band Bear’s Den in 2016. Alongside his work with the group, he launched his solo career, releasing debut album Empty Handed (2018) — praised for its haunting folk textures and lyrical honesty — followed by You Were the Place (2019). His catalogue blends acoustic intimacy with lush, atmospheric arrangements, drawing comparisons to artists like S. Carey and Bon Iver. His work has received critical support from Clash, DIY, GoldFlakePaint, and The i, and he has toured with artists such as Nick Mulvey, Lisa Hannigan, The Staves, Joan As Police Woman, and Mighty Oaks. In 2025, van der Ven announced his forthcoming album is this what we’ve become?, featuring production by Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Daughter). The record explores themes of identity, longing, and transformation — continuing his evolution as a leading voice in contemporary indie folk.
