Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is an American indie rock project formed in 2004, originating between Philadelphia and Brooklyn. The band gained rapid attention for their self-released, self-titled debut album Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (2005), which became a defining release of the early internet and “blog-rock” era — praised for its energetic, DIY spirit and Alec Ounsworth’s distinctive, elastic vocals. The original lineup featured Alec Ounsworth (vocals/guitar), Sean Greenhalgh (drums), Robbie Guertin (keyboard/guitar), and brothers Lee and Tyler Sargent (bass/guitar). After the breakout success of their debut, they released Some Loud Thunder (2007), Hysterical (2011), Only Run (2014), The Tourist (2017), and New Fragility (2021), evolving their sound toward more introspective and experimental territory. Today, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is primarily the solo project of Alec Ounsworth, who continues to record and tour internationally. In 2025, the band announced a 20th-anniversary world tour and vinyl reissue of their debut album, celebrating its influence on 2000s indie music.
