CLIPPING is an American experimental hip-hop trio from Los Angeles, formed in 2009, consisting of rapper Daveed Diggs and producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes. They began as a remix project before evolving into a fully original act known for highly experimental, noise-driven rap music. They are widely recognised for pushing hip-hop into extreme and unconventional territory by combining rap with industrial sound design, noise music, and cinematic storytelling. Their production style often uses found sounds, field recordings, and heavily processed textures instead of traditional instrumentation, while Diggs’ vocals move between rapid-fire delivery and narrative, spoken-word style performance. Across their albums, clipping. frequently work in concept-driven formats, especially science fiction, horror, and dystopian storytelling. Projects like *Splendor & Misery* and *There Existed an Addiction to Blood* are known for blending Afrofuturism, horror aesthetics, and experimental sound design into tightly structured narrative records. Despite their abrasive sound, the group view themselves as part of hip-hop tradition rather than a rejection of it, drawing influence from both classic rap production and avant-garde electronic and noise artists.
