D.C Cross is an Australian musician, songwriter, and record producer best known for his instrumental guitar project under the name D.C Cross. Originally from Sydney, he first came to prominence as the founding member of indie rock band Gerling, before moving into solo and experimental work across multiple styles including folk, ambient, and instrumental guitar music. As D.C Cross, his sound focuses on “Australian Ecstatic Guitar”—a fingerstyle approach influenced by American primitive guitar and British folk traditions (such as John Fahey, Nick Drake, and Leo Kottke), blended with Australian landscapes and storytelling. His albums include Ecstatic Racquet (2019), Terabithian (2020), Hot-wire the Lay-low (2022), Wizrad (2023), and Glookies Guit (2024), all centered around instrumental, expressive acoustic guitar work. Across his career, he has also collaborated widely and performed with acts like Beck, Courtney Barnett, The Avalanches, and Ed Kuepper, building a reputation as a respected figure in Australia’s experimental and indie music scene.
