Mustard (formerly DJ Mustard) is an American record producer, DJ, songwriter, and music executive from Los Angeles, California. Rising to prominence in the early 2010s, he became one of the defining architects of modern West Coast hip-hop through his minimalist, club-ready production style, characterized by punchy 808s, handclaps, infectious synth melodies, and his iconic producer tag, "Mustard on the beat, ho!". His breakthrough came with Rack City in 2011, launching a run of hit productions for artists including YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Rihanna, Big Sean, and Jeremih. Beyond producing chart-topping records, Mustard founded the independent label 10 Summers Records in 2014, helping launch artists such as Ella Mai. His own albums include 10 Summers, Cold Summer, Perfect Ten, and Faith of a Mustard Seed. In 2024, he reached another career milestone by producing Not Like Us for Kendrick Lamar, a global hit that topped the charts and won multiple Grammy Awards. As a DJ, Mustard performs high-energy sets rooted in hip-hop while incorporating trap, R&B, and club music, making him a popular booking for festivals, nightclubs, and major live events around the world. His influence on the sound of 2010s hip-hop remains one of the most significant of any producer of his generation.
