Evanescence is an American rock band founded in 1994 in Little Rock, Arkansas, by vocalist and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The band became a global sensation with the release of their debut album Fallen in 2003, which sold over 17 million copies worldwide and earned two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. The singles “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal” became international hits, defining their haunting blend of gothic atmosphere, orchestral arrangements, and powerful rock energy. Following Fallen, Evanescence released The Open Door (2006) and Evanescence (2011), both debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Their music evolved with more symphonic and progressive elements while maintaining Lee’s signature ethereal vocals and piano-driven style. In 2017, they released Synthesis, a reimagined orchestral-electronic compilation, followed by The Bitter Truth (2021), which marked a return to their heavier, guitar-driven sound. Throughout their career, Evanescence have been celebrated for their theatrical live performances, emotional lyricism, and genre-crossing sound that merges classical composition with metal intensity. Amy Lee remains the creative force and sole constant member, ensuring the band’s legacy as one of the most influential acts in modern rock.
