Everclear is an American rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1991 by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Art Alexakis. Known for their mix of gritty post-grunge energy and melodic alt-rock hooks, Everclear became one of the defining rock acts of the late 1990s. Their confessional lyrics, often drawn from Alexakis’ personal struggles and working-class experiences, resonated deeply with audiences seeking authenticity and emotion in rock music. The band’s commercial breakthrough came with their third album Sparkle and Fade (1995), featuring the hit singles “Santa Monica” and “Heroin Girl.” They solidified their mainstream success with So Much for the Afterglow (1997), which produced chart-topping singles “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” and “Everything to Everyone.” These tracks became alt-rock radio staples and helped Everclear achieve multi-platinum status. Over three decades later, Everclear remains active, releasing albums such as Invisible Stars (2012) and Black Is the New Black (2015), while continuing to tour globally. Art Alexakis has also been recognized for his advocacy and openness about his personal life, including his journey with multiple sclerosis. With their mix of anthemic choruses and raw storytelling, Everclear remains a powerful voice in American alternative rock.
