Bio
Fabulous Contraption is a boundary-pushing instrumental music group from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, known for blending metal, jazz, fusion, and progressive rock into unpredictable, high-energy compositions. Their sound ranges from hypnotic grooves to chaotic improvisations, marked by intricate instrumental interplay and genre-defying structures. They’ve performed around Australia at venues and gigs that celebrate adventurous underground music, often sharing lineups with other progressive and experimental bands. Reviews and gig guides describe them as a “living, breathing machine constructed from modern jazz, experimental metal and progressive rock,” with performances featuring soaring solos, open-structured improvisations, and rhythmic mayhem. The group operates primarily as an instrumental ensemble, using instruments like electric guitars, synthesizers (including Moog), bass, and drums to create music that moves dynamically between groove, chaos, and subtle tension.
