FEAR FACTORY are an influential American metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by guitarist Dino Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell. Widely regarded as pioneers of industrial metal, the band became known for combining crushing mechanized guitar riffs, electronic textures, aggressive death-metal intensity, and the signature contrast between harsh screams and melodic clean vocals. Fear Factory rose to prominence in the 1990s with landmark albums such as Soul of a New Machine (1992), Demanufacture (1995), and Obsolete (1998), records that helped shape the future of industrial, groove, and modern extreme metal. Their futuristic themes often explored technology, artificial intelligence, dystopian societies, and the conflict between humanity and machines. The band earned a reputation for groundbreaking production and precision musicianship, influencing generations of metal acts across industrial metal, metalcore, nu metal, and extreme metal scenes. Over the years, Fear Factory toured with major artists including Black Sabbath, Slayer, Metallica, and Iron Maiden while performing at multiple Ozzfest festivals. Despite numerous lineup changes and legal disputes over the years, Fear Factory continued evolving through albums like Mechanize, The Industrialist, Genexus, and Aggression Continuum. Today, the band remains led by Dino Cazares and continues touring internationally while maintaining a lasting legacy as one of the most innovative and influential industrial metal bands of all time.
