Bio
GAEREA is a Portuguese extreme metal band from Porto, formed in 2016. The group is known for its anonymity, performing in hooded masks and maintaining a strong visual identity that emphasizes mystery and collective anonymity rather than individual members. Musically, GAEREA began rooted in black metal, but quickly evolved into a more expansive sound often described as post-black metal or atmospheric black metal, incorporating emotional, cinematic, and experimental elements. Their music blends harsh intensity with melancholic and atmospheric passages, exploring themes of pain, alienation, identity, and psychological struggle. They debuted with their self-titled EP in 2016, followed by their first full-length album *Unsettling Whispers* (2018), which helped establish their international presence. Subsequent albums like *Limbo* (2020), *Mirage* (2022), and *Coma* (2024) expanded their sound further into more dynamic and emotionally layered territory. GAEREA has become one of the most prominent modern European extreme metal acts, known for intense live performances and a distinctive blend of aggression and atmosphere.
