Happy Mondays are an English alternative rock band from Salford, Greater Manchester, formed in 1980. They were one of the defining acts of the Madchester movement, pioneering a distinctive fusion of indie rock, post-punk, acid house, funk, psychedelia, and dance music. Led by frontman Shaun Ryder, the band became renowned for their infectious grooves, irreverent lyrics, and chaotic live performances, helping bridge the gap between guitar music and the UK's late-1980s rave culture. The band's breakthrough came with acclaimed albums such as *Bummed* (1988) and *Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches* (1990), which featured classic tracks including "Step On," "Kinky Afro," "Loose Fit," and "Hallelujah." Their influence on British alternative music remains significant, inspiring generations of indie, dance-rock, and electronic artists. Despite lineup changes and periods of inactivity, Happy Mondays continue to tour internationally.
