King Missile is an avant-garde rock band from New York City, founded in 1986 by poet/vocalist John S. Hall. Known for blending spoken word, absurdist humor, and surreal storytelling with alternative rock instrumentation, they carved out a cult following in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Their best-known track, “Detachable Penis” (1992), brought them mainstream recognition, but most of their catalog emphasizes satire, experimental lyrics, and art-rock performance. Over the years, the project has taken different forms (King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), King Missile, King Missile III), always centered on Hall’s eccentric vision.
