Bio
La Descarga is a Melbourne-based Latin–Australian ensemble founded in 2010 by Colombian percussionist Jorge Leiva. Celebrated for their vibrant fusion of traditional Colombian coastal rhythms with psychedelic, electronic and modern global influences, the group blends folkloric drums, gaita, marimba and dancers with contemporary electric instrumentation. In 2024 they released their debut album Fiesta de Corazón, a multicultural project featuring over 30 collaborators and driven by the spirit of Latin American street-carnival culture. Known for high-energy, immersive live shows, La Descarga acts as a cultural bridge — preserving Colombian tropical roots music while reimagining it for Australian audiences through community engagement, workshops and festival performances.
