Les Big Byrd are a psychedelic/experimental indie rock band formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 2011 by long‑time collaborators Joakim Åhlund and Frans Johansson, both veterans of the Swedish underground music scene. The duo soon expanded to include additional musicians and has since become known for their expansive, hypnotic sound that blends swirling psychedelic rock, krautrock‑inspired rhythms, lush synth textures, and adventurous song structures. Their debut album They Worshipped Cats (2014) emerged from sessions with Anton Newcombe and introduced many listeners to their expansive sonic palette. Subsequent releases such as Iran Iraq IKEA (2018), Eternal Light Brigade (2022) and Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain (2024) further developed their sound with synth‑heavy, atmospheric compositions and both Swedish and English lyrics. Les Big Byrd’s music defies simple categorization, embracing a rich fusion of psych rock, indie experimentation, and krautrock influences that have helped them stand out on the global underground stage.
