Mirusia Louwerse, known professionally as Mirusia, is an Australian soprano and recording artist celebrated for her ethereal voice and cross-genre versatility. Born on 29 March 1985 in Brisbane, Queensland, to Dutch parents, she began classical voice training at an early age and graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance in 2006. That same year, Mirusia won the Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award, becoming its youngest recipient. Her life changed when her Dutch aunt sent a recording of her singing to world-renowned violinist André Rieu, who invited her to join his Johann Strauss Orchestra as a featured soprano. Her collaboration with Rieu propelled her to global fame—her performance on Waltzing Matilda (2008) topped the ARIA charts and went platinum, cementing her place as one of Australia’s leading classical crossover artists. As a solo artist, Mirusia has released numerous acclaimed albums, including Always & Forever (2010), This Time Tomorrow (2016), A Salute to The Seekers (2019), Songbird (2022), Duets (2023), and Classique (2024)—the latter debuting at #1 on both the Classical and Classical-Crossover charts in Australia. Her live performances and DVDs frequently chart #1 on the ARIA DVD charts, demonstrating her rare cross-market appeal. Known by her fans as “The Angel of Australia”, Mirusia combines classical virtuosity with pop accessibility, performing repertoires ranging from opera and folk to cinematic and contemporary ballads. She has collaborated with artists such as The Seekers, José Carreras, and André Rieu, performing on world stages including the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and countless international arenas. Beyond her musical success, Mirusia is a devoted philanthropist and ambassador for several organizations including the Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) and Silver Memories, a nostalgic music service for aged-care residents. She also supports the Redland Foundation and has performed in countless charity concerts to support healthcare and community programs. In recognition of her community leadership, she was named Redlands Coast Citizen of the Year (2024) and nominated for Queensland Australian of the Year (2025). Her influence bridges artistry, compassion, and advocacy for the transformative power of music.
