Molchat Doma is a Belarusian post-punk band formed in Minsk in 2017. The trio blends cold wave, darkwave, and minimalist synth-pop, drawing heavily from the stark, melancholic aesthetics of 1980s Eastern European new wave. Their sound is characterised by icy drum machines, reverb-soaked vocals, and bass-driven arrangements that create a gloomy yet danceable atmosphere. They gained international attention through underground circulation and viral online popularity, especially after tracks from their 2018 album Etazhi spread widely across social media and streaming platforms. Their music evokes themes of isolation, urban decay, and existential dread, resonating with global audiences seeking nostalgic yet modern darkwave. They have since released critically noted albums including Monument (2020) and Belaya Polosa (2024), solidifying their place as one of the leading contemporary acts in the post-punk revival.
