Monstress is a Sydney-based five-piece all-female and non-binary creative collective that blends neo-soul, jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, and alternative music into a distinctive, groove-driven sound. Led by vocalist and bassist Sarah Homeh, the band combines soulful melodies, lush harmonies, improvisational elements, and thoughtful storytelling, drawing inspiration from artists such as Erykah Badu, Tank and the Bangas, Little Simz, and Doechii. Formed on Gadigal land (Sydney), Monstress places a strong emphasis on collaboration, with members contributing not only as performers but also as songwriters, composers, and visual creators. Their lineup includes Sarah Homeh (vocals/bass), Hayley Chan (drums/percussion), Hazel Alexander (keys), Adrianna Cicchitelli (guitar), and Jenna Lewis (saxophone/vocals). Their music explores themes of identity, self-reflection, healing, empowerment, and human connection. Releases such as "Your Meal" showcase the band's introspective lyricism, jazz-infused arrangements, and cinematic approach to storytelling.
