Murphy’s Law is a legendary American hardcore punk band formed in New York City in 1982. Emerging from the same vibrant scene that produced Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, and Sick of It All, they became known for mixing aggressive New York hardcore with humor, party culture, and a punk-meets-ska attitude. Fronted by the charismatic Jimmy Gestapo, the band built a reputation for wild, high-energy live shows and a style that blended classic hardcore intensity with lighthearted themes, making them one of the most distinctive acts in the NYHC movement. Their self-titled debut album (1986) and follow-up Back with a Bong! (1989) are regarded as cult favorites within hardcore circles, featuring fast riffs, brass flourishes, and their signature party-rock spirit. Through decades of lineup changes, Murphy’s Law has remained an influential live act, touring internationally and maintaining a devoted fan base while continuing to represent the spirit of classic New York hardcore.
