Oren Ambarchi is an Australian musician and multi-instrumentalist born in Sydney in 1969. He is best known for his highly experimental approach to music, working across avant-garde, free improvisation, ambient, drone, noise, electronic, and experimental rock styles. He began his career in the 1980s playing free jazz as a drummer before moving into innovative electric guitar and percussion work, often focusing on texture, tone, and long-form sound exploration rather than traditional song structures. Over his career, Ambarchi has collaborated with a wide range of influential experimental artists including Jim O’Rourke, Keiji Haino, Sunn O))), Merzbow, and Keith Rowe, and he has also been a member of projects such as Burial Chamber Trio and Gravetemple. He runs the experimental record label Black Truffle, and has released numerous solo albums and collaborative works that are considered important in modern experimental and drone music.
