Otik is the stage name of Ashley Thomas, a British DJ, producer, and label owner from Bristol, England. Now based in London, he has become one of the leading figures in the UK's contemporary bass music scene, known for seamlessly blending techno, UK garage, jungle, breaks, footwork, and ambient textures into a distinctive, emotionally driven sound. Thomas began producing music as a teenager using Fruity Loops and was influenced by Bristol's rich electronic music heritage, including artists such as Massive Attack, Portishead, and The Streets. After moving to London to study music culture, he immersed himself in the city's club scene while working at NTS Radio, where he built connections that helped launch his career. His early releases appeared on labels including Keysound Recordings, 17 Steps, Infinite Machine, DEXT Recordings, and Intergraded, earning praise for their innovative fusion of UK bass and techno. In 2022, Otik founded his own imprint, Solar Body, giving him a platform to release music that reflects his evolving artistic vision. His debut album, Cosmosis (2024), received critical acclaim for its fluid combination of liquid drum & bass, techno, UK garage, and ambient influences, further establishing him as one of the UK's most forward-thinking electronic producers. As a DJ, Otik is renowned for genre-spanning sets that connect high-energy jungle and footwork with deep garage, atmospheric techno, and bass music. He has performed at respected venues and festivals across the UK, Europe, and North America, held residencies on Rinse FM and Rinse France, and contributed mixes for Resident Advisor, Dekmantel, Crack Magazine, NTS, and Worldwide FM.
