Papa M is the long-running solo project of American multi-instrumentalist David Pajo, an influential guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with bands including Slint, Tortoise, Zwan, Interpol, and Gang of Four. Launched in the late 1990s after earlier releases under the name Aerial M, Papa M explores an expansive musical palette ranging from atmospheric post-rock and instrumental guitar compositions to folk, ambient, and experimental rock. Pajo's introspective songwriting, intricate guitar work, and willingness to evolve stylistically have made Papa M one of the most respected solo projects in the underground alternative music scene. After a lengthy hiatus, the project returned with acclaimed albums including *Highway Songs* (2016), *A Broke Moon Rises* (2018), and *Ballads of Harry Houdini* (2024).
