Bio
Plainer is an experimental indie music collective from Meanjin (Brisbane), Australia. The project began with the songs and ideas of Nick Smethurst and expanded into a six‑piece group featuring collaborators James Eyre Walker, Mae McDonald, Imogen Kowalczyk, Katy Bedford and Winter Cyan. Their sound blends ambient, indie and song‑craft elements, often described as “miserable Meanjin music” with a focus on atmospheric, artful compositions and minimal song structures. Plainer has released music via Bandcamp, including tracks like “List” from their forthcoming album Partnerships, and has played live shows at Brisbane venues such as The Bearded Lady. They’ve appeared on line‑ups with other experimental and indie acts, positioning themselves on the independent alternative music circuit in Queensland and beyond.
