Poison the Well is an American metalcore and post-hardcore band formed in Florida in 1997. Emerging from the late 90s hardcore punk scene, they became one of the most influential bands in early metalcore, known for blending aggressive hardcore intensity with melodic and emotional passages. Their early releases, including *The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation* and *Tear from the Red*, helped define the sound of 2000s metalcore, combining heavy breakdowns, dynamic guitar work, and emotionally charged vocals. Over time, the band evolved into more experimental territory, incorporating broader post-hardcore and alternative influences across later albums like *Versions* and *The Tropic Rot*. After a hiatus beginning in 2010, they reunited for shows in the mid-2010s and beyond, remaining a highly respected name in underground heavy music.
