Primitive Man is an American extreme metal band known for an overwhelmingly heavy, slow, and punishing sound that blends elements of sludge metal, doom metal, and noise music. Their music often pushes very slow tempos, crushing guitars, intense distortion, and bleak vocal delivery, which has earned them a reputation as one of the harshest bands in modern heavy metal. The trio was formed in 2012 by Ethan Lee McCarthy (vocals/guitar), Jonathan Campos (bass), and Joe Linden (drums). They’ve released several albums and EPs, including Scorn (2013), Caustic (2017), and Immersion (2020) — each noting their relentless heaviness and nihilistic atmosphere.
