They began making music in the early 2000s while still in school, first gaining attention with underground recordings in Ghana’s emerging hiplife scene. Their breakthrough came in the late 2000s and early 2010s as they became known for a smoother, more melodic take on rap and urban Ghanaian music. Their debut album Da Revolution (2009) helped establish them locally, but it was Da Revolution II: Refuse to Be Broke (2012) that significantly expanded their reach across West Africa. Over time, they became one of the key acts bridging Ghanaian hiplife with the broader Afrobeats movement. R2Bees are also closely associated with the global rise of Afrobeats in the 2010s, collaborating with major African artists and helping push Ghanaian urban music into international recognition.
