Redd Kross is an American alternative rock band formed in Hawthorne, California in 1980 by brothers Jeff McDonald and Steven McDonald. Emerging from the early Los Angeles punk scene, the band first started as a teenage group called *The Tourists* before adopting the name Red Cross and later changing the spelling to Redd Kross to avoid confusion with the humanitarian organization. Known for blending punk energy with melodic pop influences, Redd Kross developed a distinctive sound that mixes alternative rock, power pop, and punk rock with references to pop culture and classic rock. Their early shows included opening for influential punk band Black Flag, helping establish them within the Southern California punk movement. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the band released several notable albums such as *Born Innocent* (1982), *Neurotica* (1987), *Third Eye* (1990), and *Phaseshifter* (1993), building a cult following for their energetic performances and genre-blending style. After a hiatus in the late 1990s, Redd Kross reunited in the 2000s and has continued releasing music and touring, including their self-titled double album in 2024. Today, Redd Kross remains an influential cult act in alternative and underground rock, celebrated for their playful mix of punk attitude, power-pop hooks, and decades-long presence in the independent music scene.
