Riot V is an American heavy metal band that continues the legacy of the original group Riot, formed in New York City in 1975. The “V” (Roman numeral for 5) represents the fifth era of the band’s lineup after the passing of founding guitarist Mark Reale. The band was reformed in 2013 with surviving members and new musicians, carrying forward Riot’s long-standing tradition in classic and power metal. Riot has been influential in the development of the US heavy metal scene, particularly in the late 1970s and 1980s, alongside the rise of traditional metal and early power metal sounds. Riot V continues to perform and record music that stays faithful to the band’s classic identity, often blending melodic structures with fast, guitar-driven metal instrumentation.
