Sanctuary emerged from the Seattle metal scene in the mid-1980s, gaining attention with their debut album Refuge Denied (1987), produced by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. Their second album, Into the Mirror Black (1989), cemented their reputation for intense, melodic metal with intricate arrangements and thought-provoking lyrics. The band disbanded in 1992, with members forming the progressive metal band Nevermore, but later reunited in 2010, continuing to release new material and tour internationally.
