Bio
Shawn James (born September 23, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Raised on the South Side of Chicago by Greek immigrant parents, he developed his powerful vocal style singing in church choirs and later studied voice and classical music. After working as a sound engineer in Nashville, he launched his solo career with the album Shadows (2012) and soon formed his backing band, The Shapeshifters. His music blends blues, folk, gospel, and rock, marked by its raw emotional delivery. Viral moments, such as his wolf sanctuary performance of American Hearts in 2015 and the use of his song Through the Valley in the trailer for The Last of Us Part II in 2016, brought him global recognition. He has released multiple acclaimed albums including Deliverance (2014), On the Shoulders of Giants (2016), The Dark & The Light (2019), A Place in the Unknown (2022), and Honor & Vengeance (2023). His work has been featured in TV and film (Shameless, Yukon Men, Reckless) and he continues to tour internationally, balancing raw acoustic sets with full-band performances.
