Skream & Benga are pioneering British DJs and producers widely regarded as foundational figures in the creation and evolution of dubstep. Hailing from Croydon, South London, the duo—Oliver Jones (Skream) and Adegbenga Adejumo (Benga)—emerged in the early 2000s as part of the influential Big Apple Records scene, alongside artists like Hatcha and Artwork. Their early productions helped define the darker, bass-heavy sound that became synonymous with dubstep’s global rise. Skream’s 2005 anthem Midnight Request Line and Benga’s tracks 26 Basslines and Night (with Coki) were genre-defining releases, blending garage rhythms, sub-bass pressure, and experimental textures. As a duo, Skream & Benga gained widespread attention through their BBC Radio 1 show (2011–2014), where they showcased new talent and brought dubstep into mainstream radio. They also joined Magnetic Man, a supergroup with Artwork, whose self-titled album in 2010 reached the UK Top 5 and included hits like I Need Air and Perfect Stranger. After focusing on solo work in the mid-2010s—Skream moving toward house and techno, and Benga facing health challenges—the pair reunited in 2022, announcing new music and festival performances, reviving the energy and innovation that first made them legends of the UK bass scene.
