Solo Banton (real name Edward Ronald Browne) is a UK-based reggae, dub and dancehall artist, not an Australian musician, though he frequently tours internationally including Australia. Born and raised in London with Caribbean heritage, he emerged from the UK’s sound system culture, starting as a selector, MC and producer before transitioning into a recording artist. Known for his vintage deejay style, charismatic stage presence and conscious lyricism, Solo Banton blends humour, social commentary and “edutainment” in his music. He began recording in the late 2000s, gaining recognition with releases like Walk Like Rasta (2010), Higher Levels (2012), Old Raggamuffin (2019), and In This Time (2024). Over his career, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists and producers across reggae and bass music scenes, including Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Macka B, and Roots Manuva, and has performed globally at festivals and sound system events. Solo Banton’s sound is rooted in reggae and dancehall traditions, often crossing into dub, hip-hop, jungle and drum & bass, reflecting his deep connection to both Jamaican and UK underground music cultures.
