Bio
Sonny & The Sunsets is a band led by San Francisco–based songwriter, artist and playwright Sonny Smith (b. 1972) who formed the project in 2007. Their music is known for its vintage, nostalgic feel: combining elements of 1950s & 60s pop, doo-wop, garage rock, country, folk, and indie, often with lyrical themes about outcasts, lost love, death, weird characters and imaginative, poetic storytelling. They’ve released multiple albums, and their sound has shifted over time—some records lean more country-rock, others more synth or new wave, some more lo-fi doo-wop/garage pop. Smith also runs the label Rocks in Your Head Records and has done creative-art projects (e.g. 100 Records fake-band project) showing his broad artistic interests beyond just songwriting.
