Soulfly was formed in 1997 by Max Cavalera after he left the influential Brazilian metal band Sepultura, carrying forward a diverse and ferocious approach to heavy music that mixes groove metal, thrash, and world‑inspired rhythms. They debuted with their self‑titled album Soulfly in 1998 and have released thirteen studio albums, most recently Chama in October 2025, which blends primal tribal energy with metal intensity. Soulfly’s sound spans a wide range of metal styles — from early nu‑metal and tribal influences to groove and thrash‑dominated later work. Lyrical themes often explore spirituality, aggression, cultural identity, and personal struggle. The band continues to tour globally and has a 2026 Australian tour scheduled for January, performing shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne as part of a headline run with Nailbomb and Snot.
