Stereolab is an Anglo-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990, led by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier. They are known for blending repetitive motorik rhythms with vintage synthesizers, creating a distinctive mix of krautrock-inspired grooves, experimental pop, and indie electronic music. Their sound combines elements of krautrock, lounge, 1960s pop, jazz, and experimental rock, often featuring hypnotic grooves, analog keyboards, and bilingual (English/French) vocals. Lyrically, the band is also known for politically and philosophically themed songwriting influenced by Marxism, Situationist ideas, and surrealist aesthetics. They became highly influential in the 1990s alternative scene, especially through albums like *Emperor Tomato Ketchup*, *Dots and Loops*, and *Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements*, which helped shape what became known as post-rock and experimental indie pop. After a hiatus in 2009, they reunited in 2019 for touring and new releases, continuing their retro-futurist, genre-blending style into the present day.
