Straight Arrows are an Australian garage rock band from Sydney, widely recognised for their raw, lo-fi sound and energetic live shows that draw from 1960s garage, surf rock, and punk revival influences. Formed in the late 2000s and led by songwriter and producer Owen Penglis, the group became a key act in Australia’s underground garage scene. Their music blends fuzzy guitars, punchy rhythms, and melodic hooks, balancing vintage rock’n’roll aesthetics with modern indie sensibilities. Beyond performing, Penglis has also contributed to the scene through his role as a producer and via the influential Sydney label Rice Is Nice Records. Straight Arrows gained attention with early singles and their debut album It’s Happening, followed by releases like Rising and On Top!, which cemented their reputation for gritty, hook-driven songwriting. They have toured extensively across Australia and internationally, sharing stages with garage and indie peers while maintaining a strong DIY ethos.
