Named after a song by British folk-rockers Matthews Southern Comfort, Sylvie is the nostalgia-steeped collaborative project of SoCal native Ben Schwab (Golden Daze, Drugdealer). The project draws on the warm, amber-hued sounds of the Laurel Canyon scene, blending folk, soft rock, and dream-pop into an intimate, soulful style. The inspiration for Sylvie’s self-titled 2022 debut album came from a box of tapes recorded by Ben’s father, John Schwab, and his band Mad Anthony in 1975. Recorded in a barn in Southern California, the songs were never released, yet their timeless harmonies and effortless melodies left a lasting imprint. Decades later, Ben discovered the tapes in Ohio, channeling their spirit into Sylvie’s music — a harmonic birthright that melds nostalgia with contemporary sensibilities. With evocative songwriting, warm instrumentation, and a sense of timelessness, Sylvie creates music that is both reflective and resonant, appealing to fans of folk, soft rock, and the rich, sun-soaked soundscapes of classic Laurel Canyon.
