T-Rex Autopsy is an Australian progressive metal band based in the Blue Mountains and Western Sydney, recognized for expanding the boundaries of heavy music through a distinctive fusion of global musical traditions. Guided by the philosophy that "there are a million ways to be heavy," the band blends progressive and psychedelic rock with ethno-jazz, cinematic soundscapes, Middle Eastern and North Indian classical influences, and a broad spectrum of metal styles, creating a sound often described as "World Metal." Featuring multi-instrumentalists Craig Bailey, Ross Bailey, Lyric Burroughs, and Jack Whitney, T-Rex Autopsy incorporates traditional instruments such as the oud, glissentar, baglama, mandolin, darbuka, and goblet drum alongside crushing guitars and dynamic rhythms. Their immersive, high-energy live performances combine technical musicianship with rich cultural influences, delivering an intense and unpredictable experience that emphasizes storytelling through sound. The band released a series of singles before unveiling their debut full-length album, Cygnus Atratus, in 2025. Recorded at Direct Injection Studios, the album showcases their ambitious songwriting, progressive complexity, and globally inspired sonic palette, establishing T-Rex Autopsy as one of Australia's most distinctive experimental metal acts.
