Testeagles are a three-piece alternative metal band from Adelaide, South Australia, formed in 1994 by brothers Matthew “Matty” Matt (vocals, guitar) and Adrian “Ady” Matt (drums), later joined by Dave “D” Paisawa on bass. Known for their explosive blend of heavy guitar riffs, electronic beats, and rap-infused vocals, Testeagles developed a cult following in the late 1990s and early 2000s for their genre-smashing sound. Their debut album Non Comprehendus (2000) reached No. 8 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was praised for fusing industrial textures with alternative rock aggression. The record’s standout singles, including “Turn That Shit Up” and “Underdog,” received national airplay on Triple J—“Turn That Shit Up” also charted in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 1999. The band’s sound was often compared to acts like Rage Against the Machine and Nine Inch Nails, but with a distinct Australian edge. Produced by Paul McKercher and mixed by Ulrich Wild, Non Comprehendus remains a defining moment in Australian heavy music. After an extended hiatus beginning in 2008, Testeagles reunited in 2024, announcing a national 25th-anniversary tour for Non Comprehendus in 2025. Their comeback celebrates their enduring influence as pioneers of Australia’s crossover rock scene.
