THE 5,6,7,8 are a Japanese all-female garage rock / rockabilly / surf punk band formed in Tokyo in 1986. They are known for their raw, retro-inspired sound that draws heavily from 1950s–1960s rock ’n’ roll, surf music, and garage punk aesthetics. The group was founded by sisters Yoshiko “Ronnie” Fujiyama (vocals/guitar) and Sachiko Fujii (drums), and has gone through various lineup changes over the years while maintaining a core DIY, retro performance style. International audiences widely recognise them for their appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s *Kill Bill Vol. 1* (2003), which helped introduce their high-energy track “Woo Hoo” and their surf-garage sound to a global audience. Their music is heavily influenced by vintage American rock and roll, girl groups, surf rock, and punk energy, often performed with matching retro outfits and a deliberately lo-fi, chaotic live style.
