The Maes are a multi-award-winning contemporary folk duo from Melbourne, Victoria, consisting of sisters Maggie Rigby and Elsie Rigby. Formerly known as The Mae Trio, the group was founded within Australia's vibrant folk music community, with the sisters immersed in folk festivals and traditional music from infancy. Following the departure of founding member Anita Hillman, they rebranded as The Maes and returned to their roots with an intimate, harmony-driven sound that showcases their exceptional songwriting, rich vocal blend, and masterful acoustic musicianship. Their self-titled 2019 album marked a new chapter for the band, featuring songs developed while touring Europe and North America. Known for weaving together traditional folk influences with contemporary storytelling, The Maes have earned widespread acclaim for their heartfelt performances, intricate harmonies, and instrumental versatility. They have become a respected presence on the Australian and international folk circuits, performing at major festivals and touring extensively across Australia, Europe, and North America.
