The Man From Atlantis is a Melbourne-based experimental music project led by musician Michael Sill. The project has been active since around 2017 and is known for its improvised, long-form, genre-blending compositions. The music draws from a wide range of styles including psychedelic rock, punk, folk, blues, krautrock, free jazz, Indian classical, ambient, and experimental noise, often combining them into extended, evolving pieces. Michael Sill has been involved in the Australian underground and DIY music scene for decades, previously participating in experimental and krautrock-influenced projects such as Ray of Creation and Imperial Leatherman. Through The Man From Atlantis, he focuses on spontaneous composition and collaboration, often working with guest musicians and improvisers from around the world. The project is closely connected to Ramble Records, a DIY label that supports experimental and outsider music. Overall, The Man From Atlantis is known for creating free-form, boundary-pushing experimental music that prioritises exploration over traditional song structure, making each release highly unpredictable and unique.
