Bio
The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk band led by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. Originally formed in the early 1990s as a lo-fi solo project, the band evolved into a full group known for their literate, emotionally intense songwriting and prolific output. Their music blends indie folk, alternative rock, and narrative-driven lyricism, often exploring themes of resilience, personal struggle, and redemption. Early releases were famously recorded on a boombox, giving them a raw, intimate sound, while later albums expanded into fuller studio productions. Over the years, The Mountain Goats have built a dedicated global following, with acclaimed albums like All Hail West Texas and The Sunset Tree becoming cult favorites. Known for their storytelling and passionate live performances, they remain one of the most respected acts in the indie music scene.
