The Presets are an Australian electronic music duo from Sydney, formed in 2003 by Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, production). Emerging from the country’s indie-dance explosion of the mid-2000s, they became one of Australia’s most influential electro acts, known for their fusion of club music, synth-pop, and alternative dance energy. The duo gained early recognition with their debut album Beams (2005), but achieved major commercial and critical success with Apocalypso (2008). The album produced standout tracks like “My People,” “Talk Like That,” and “This Boy’s in Love,” winning multiple awards and helping define Australia’s bloghouse / indie-electronic era. Their later releases — including Pacifica (2012) and Hi Viz (2018) — expanded their sound into darker techno textures, festival-ready electro house, and polished synth-pop, while maintaining their signature blend of emotive vocals and driving electronic production. Celebrated for explosive live shows that combine live drumming with electronic performance, The Presets remain a staple of Australian festivals and club circuits, with enduring influence on indie dance and electronic pop crossover acts.
